Hazarak Makrah was born to the Makrah Clan in East Cormyr. On the day of his birth, as is custom within the clan, the elder shaman divined Hazarak markings. The elder announced that Hazarak was to be known as “The Destroyer”. This title is carried like a curse that he will bring destruction to those close to him. Such an auspicious birth meant very little to his parents who despite the clan’s objections, refused to sacrifice him as was custom. Grel, Hazarak’s Father, was hunting pack leader and strongest of all the males. Warga, Hazarak’s mother, was a powerful Warlock channeler and most desirable female. Grel fought many suitors to earn the right to take Warga, as his mate. The clan elderes believed that their union would produce a powerful offspring that could potentially become clan leader, and thus Hazarak was born. Warga was the most feared female in the clan and that fear kept Hazarak alive. No one would dare harm her pup if they valued their life. However he by no means had it easy. Even by clan standards Hazarak’s training was brutal and he was treated as a pariah. Many years passed and he grew stronger as the elder foretold. Hazarak grew large like his father and wise like his mother. Uncomfortable with the way he was treated among the clan and because he was curious to explore, Hazarak would journey into the woods for days on end. It was on one of these journeys that he came across a lone human boy. The boy appeared lost and Hazarak hunted the boy. At first Hazarak intended to slay the boy but his curiosity got the better of him. After observing the boy for a few days Hazarak started making his presence known by leaving food with the boy while he slept. After a few days the boy awoke the see Hazarak sitting there next to him. The boy was named Darren and he and Hazarak be came friends. Though both knew that Darren’s Village and Hazarak’s clan would never accept such a friendship they continued to meet from time to time. Hazarak taught Darren the ways of the woods and Darren taught Hazarak of his God Silvanus. They learned much from each other, about nature and gods. Then one day as Hazarak returned home to discover that his clan was preparing for war. Grel grabbed Hazarak excitedly thrusting a set of weapons into his son’s hands. Hazarak took the weapons and prepared with the others of his clan. But as the war pack made its way to its destination, Hazarak realized that they were approaching Darren’s Village. The Gnoll pack attacked swiftly shortly after midnight. Hazarak killed many humans that night, expecting that the next one would be his friend. It was Just before dawn that Darren appeared before Hazarak. The whole Village was ablaze and death was every where. Darren looked at Hazarak with hollow eyes that seemed empty and lifeless. As Hazarak looked at his friend very un-Gnoll like feelings welled up within him and he could not bring himself to slay his friend. Hazarak turned away, gave Darren one last look, and ran far away. Hazarak did not return home for many nights and he did not see Darren again after that. Then one night when he returned to the Clan’s Den, he discovered that his whole clan had been slaughtered. Shock and horror ran through Hazarak and he picked through what had happened. A small group of humans had come and killed all that were there. Even his mother and father had been killed. However the one smell he took note of was his friend Darren. Darren had been there, had killed Hazarak’s family. Hazarak felt nothing. Darren had only returned to Hazarak what had done to him. Hazarak looked at the spots on his fur. Had he caused this? The prophecy had come true, he was “The Destroyer” after all. Darren would most likely come after him. If Hazarak had killed Darren at that time perhaps this wouldn’t have happened. But now looking over his shoulder he left his former home now being pursued much as he had stalked Darren. Hazarak was left wondering what Darren will do when they meet again. But one thing that is for sure is Hazarak is being hunted, and one day that hunter will strike.
